Trip to Washington, DC

From the Renaissance to Baroque - A Celebration of Italian Women Artists

An outstanding first exhibition will be presented by the National Museum of Women in the Arts, located at 1250 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC.

On Saturday, April 14th a private tour of the exhibition will be conducted at 11:00 AM for NOIAW. Lunch will be available at the museum after the tour.

Although women artists of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque are not well known today, their works were once highly regarded by European royalty and cognoscenti. The exhibit showcases the contributions of female artists from the fifteenth and sixteenth century Italy. The exhibit features 65 paintings by a variety of female artists including Properzia de Rossi, Lavinia Fontana, Artemisia Gentileschi, Barbara Longhi and many more. Many of the works in the exhibit were originally commissioned for private homes, chapels and convents.

A block of ten rooms have been reserved for two nights at the Hilton Garden Inn, 815 14th Street NW. The cost is $149.00 per room, plus tax, double occupancy. The hotel is walking distance to the museum.

An evening of activities for Saturday is being planned. In addition, a list of restaurants will be provided.

Transportation by plane, train or car will be on your own. The hotel has valet parking for $24.00 per day.

Rooms at the hotel are limited, so if you are interested in participating in this exciting women’s weekend, call the NOIAW office at (212) 642-2003 by or before April 2nd.
