Join NOIAW members and friends for a private guided tour of the celebrated female Italian artist, Marisa Merz.

The Met Breuer has mounted the first major retrospective in the United States of works by Italian painter, sculptor, and installation artist Marisa Merz. Born in Turin, Italy in 1926, she was the sole female member to be accepted into the Arte Povera movement. This avant-garde movement rejected Italy’s material wealth in favor of “poor” materials and identified with the radicalism of the student movement. Learn about Merz’s prodigious talent—from her early work with nontraditional art materials and processes to her mid-career larger scale works to her enigmatic portrait heads—and extensive influence in the art world and beyond.
