Maria Volpe joins NOIAW staff

IMG_0246Please welcome Maria Volpe to the NOIAW staff as the manager of development and communications. Before coming to NOIAW, Maria worked in creative services and project management in the magazine publishing industry. As a first-generation Italian American from New Jersey, Maria has always had an affinity for all things Italian. Now a longtime resident of Manhattan, Maria enjoys traveling to Italy to maintain ties to her relatives and for the vast wealth of culture il bel paese offers.

Julieta Velazquez joins NOIAW staff

img_6585We are pleased to welcome Julieta Velazquez, our new Administrative Assistant. Julieta is a recent graduate of Lehman College in The Bronx, where she majored in English Literature and Anthropology. Julieta also studied the Italian language for two years and is a fluent Spanish speaker. At Lehman, Julieta was a member of the Lehman Scholars Program, Lehman Lightening Cheerleaders, and the Lehman concert band, in which she played the clarinet.

Thank you to our Fall 2016 Interns!

deanna-scotto-cropPlease join us in giving a hearty Grazie mille to our dedicated fall interns, Deanna Scotto and Teresa Capasso.

Deanna is a Junior at Southern Connecticut State University where she is pursuing a B.A. in Italian with a minor in Communication. On campus, she is a member of the Honors College, the Newman Society, and (of course!) the Italian club, Italianissimi. She is also a campus tour guide. Her hometown is Meriden, CT, and her grandparents are from a small town in Italy near Naples called Monte di Procida. Deanna’s family has inspired her to study Italian and promote Italian American culture. She loves to travel, and she is looking forward to studying abroad in Ferrara, Italy during the spring 2017 semester.

Deanna was recently interviewed about her work at NOIAW. You can read the interview here.

She joined us as our Events and Membership intern this semester. She recently returned to Italy after spending three months in New York City, and we wish her a buon rientro!
