01 May RECAP: Sculpture in the Age of Donatello: Renaissance Masterpieces from Florence Cathedral at MOBIA 4/30/15
Yesterday afternoon the Greater New York Region with the Staten Island Network were led on a private tour of Early Florentine Renaissance sculptures at the Museum of Biblical Art on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The works were made for the Duomo in Florence, Italy. Tour guests got a close-up view of the beginning of a new chapter in art history. Since Donatello’s works rarely leave Italy, it was a great privilege to see them here in New York at MOBIA. Afterwards, guests had the opportunity to attend a free public lecture,“Learn my language”: speaking in stone, bronze, and wood, presented by Dr. John Paoletti of Wesleyan University.
This exhibit, running from February 20th to June 14, 2015, celebrates the museum’s 10th anniversary. Unfortunately, due to the relocation of the American Bible Society, once the museums greatest supporter, MOBIA will be closing at the end of this exhibit. For more information on this tough process and final decision to close, please follow this link to the MOBIA website: http://mobia.org/exhibitions/update-on-mobia-move
